Termera

Termera, also known as Termerum or Termeron, was a maritime town of ancient Caria on the south coast of the Halicarnassus peninsula, near Cape Termerium, though Stephanus of Byzantium mistakenly assigns it to Lycia. It was a polis and a member of the Delian League, and under Roman rule this Dorian town held the status of a free city. The Suda records that the town gave rise to a proverbial phrase for troubles brought on by imprisonment, from its use as a prison by Caria's rulers, and Greek myth credited its founding to Termerus, from whom it took its name.
