Yalova

Yalova is a city in northwestern Turkey on the eastern coast of the Sea of Marmara, seat of Yalova Province and Yalova District. Its municipality had a population of 157,499 in 2024, though the city with its adjacent conurbation districts exceeds 250,000. Known in antiquity as Pylai, Yalova is a largely modern city known as a spa destination, best known for the resort at nearby Termal, a longstanding summer retreat for residents of Istanbul, connected to the city by regular ferry service. Mustafa Kemal Ataturk kept a residence in Yalova, and the city suffered severe damage in the August 1999 earthquake that struck northwestern Turkey.
