Daşoguz is a city in northern Turkmenistan and the capital of Daşoguz Province. It was established as a fort by Russian forces in the early nineteenth century and was known as Tashauz and then Dashkhovuz before taking its current name in 1999. As of the 2022 census it had a population of about 201,142 across roughly 161 square kilometers.
