Buon Ma Thuot

Buon Ma Thuot is the capital city of Dak Lak Province in Vietnams Central Highlands and the largest city in that region. As of the 2023 census its population was 434,256 across 377.18 square kilometers, with an urban population of 246,671, and it holds class-1 provincial city status. French colonial authorities established Dak Lak Province with Buon Ma Thuot as its capital in 1904, and the city was the site of a decisive military campaign on 10 March 1975 that opened the final offensive of the Vietnam War; it was officially upgraded to a city under provincial administration on 21 August 1995. Buon Ma Thuot is known as Vietnams coffee capital, sitting amid more than 200,000 hectares of coffee cultivation in Dak Lak province.
