Long Xuyen

Long Xuyen was the capital city of An Giang Province in the Mekong Delta of southwestern Vietnam. According to the 2022 census its population was 286,140 across 115.36 square kilometers, with an urban population of 239,588. The settlement grew from an outpost called Dong Xuyen established in 1789 along the Tam Khe canal, and a nearby marketplace that came to be known as Long Xuyen eventually eclipsed the original outpost; the citys administrative reach expanded from 1877 onward, and it gained official city status on 1 March 1999. By 2023 its metropolitan area had an estimated GDP, in purchasing-power terms, of about 3.1 billion dollars, with per capita GDP of roughly 9,200 dollars.
