Marib is the capital city of Marib Governorate in Yemen, about 120 kilometres east of the modern capital Sanaa in the region of the Sarawat Mountains. It was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Saba, which some scholars identify with the Sheba of biblical tradition, and while its population was recorded at 16,794 in 2005, it had absorbed close to a million refugees fleeing the Yemeni Civil War by 2021.
