Zabid is a town on Yemen's western coastal plain, with an urban population of around 52,590 people. It is one of the oldest towns in Yemen and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993, though the site was placed on the List of World Heritage in Danger in 2000. The town served as the capital of several ruling dynasties in Yemen over many centuries.
