Alofi is the capital of Niue, a South Pacific island nation in free association with New Zealand, and comprises the two villages of Alofi North and Alofi South on the island's western coast at Alofi Bay. With 610 residents at the 2022 census, it is by some counts the second-smallest national capital in the world by population, after Palau's Ngerulmud. Many government buildings relocated from Alofi North to Alofi South after Cyclone Heta struck the town in 2004.
