The atlas index of country entities: present-day sovereign states described in their geographic frame, capital, dated population and area. A historical polity that no longer exists is carried on the History atlas instead, and a supra-national grouping of countries is a region entity, not a country. Grouped below into the same UN M49 world subregions used for this atlas's city entities, so a reader moves between the two browsable trees with one consistent regional vocabulary.
