10th century

This dimension groups cities by the era in which they were founded, ancient, medieval or modern. Wikipedia notes that "historically, city dwellers had been a small proportion of humanity overall, but following two centuries of unprecedented and rapid urbanization, more than half of the world population now lives in cities," a shift that itself happened within a very specific, recent era. Browsing by founding era separates cities that grew up in entirely different periods of urban history.
