A barren, rocky desert plateau or upland surface, largely stripped of sand and loose gravel to expose bare bedrock, typically found where wind erosion has been particularly persistent over a resistant rock surface. Hamadas represent one of the most extreme, vegetation-free desert surface types, distinct from both the sandy erg and the gravel-covered reg.
