The Kalahari Desert

The Kalahari Desert is a large semiarid sandy savanna in Southern Africa covering 900,000 km2 (350,000 sq mi), extending into Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. Unlike a true desert, much of the Kalahari supports grasses, thorny shrubs and scattered trees, and is home to substantial wildlife populations despite its low and unpredictable rainfall.
