Liaoyuan is a prefecture-level city in Jilin province, in northeastern China, lying about 100 kilometers south of the provincial capital Changchun. Covering an area of 5,125 square kilometers, it is the smallest of Jilin's prefecture-level divisions, with a total population of 1,176,645 across the prefecture and 462,233 in its urban area.
