Sarandë

Sarandë is a city on Albania's Ionian Sea coast and the seat of Sarandë Municipality, with a Mediterranean climate that brings more than 300 sunny days a year. In antiquity the settlement was known as Onchesmus, a port town of Chaonia in ancient Epirus; its modern name comes from a nearby Byzantine monastery dedicated to the Forty Saints, associated with the city from the High Middle Ages onward. Sarandë is a major tourist destination for its Ionian waters and proximity to the ancient city of Butrint, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its population includes both ethnic Albanians and a significant Greek minority, making it one of the two main centers of the Greek community in Albania.
