Dendermonde

Dendermonde is a municipality in East Flanders, Belgium, at the point where the Dender River meets the Scheldt. Chartered in 1233, it grew quickly on a thriving cloth trade in the Middle Ages and later developed cotton, oil and shoe manufacturing after a period of decline brought by conquest and destruction in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. With about 45,673 residents in 2018, the city holds two UNESCO World Heritage listings, its beguinage and its city hall and belfry, and celebrates the Ros Beiaard procession, a decennial festival honoring a legendary giant horse.
