Verviers is a city and municipality in Wallonia, in the Belgian province of Liège, where its Walloon name is Vervî. The municipality is made up of six districts: Ensival, Heusy, Lambermont, Petit-Rechain, Stembert and Verviers itself. It is also the centre of an agglomeration that includes Dison and Pepinster, which makes it the second biggest urban area in the province and an important regional centre, lying roughly halfway between Liège and the German border. Water has shaped the town's economy, first through the development of its textile industry and later through tourism. Many fountains have been built there, and it has come to be called the Water Capital of Wallonia; the seats of the two Walloon public bodies for water distribution and water treatment are located in the town.
