Zoutleeuw is a municipality and city in the Hageland area in the far east of the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant, with 8,498 inhabitants recorded on January 1, 2018, across 46.73 square kilometers. Its name combines Leeuw, meaning lion, with Zout, meaning salt, added from the 16th century in recognition of the town's historical right to collect a salt tax. In 1999 UNESCO designated the town's St. Leonard's Church part of the Belfries of Belgium and France World Heritage Site.
