Pregrada is a town and municipality in Krapina-Zagorje County in the Hrvatsko Zagorje region of northwestern Croatia. First named in a document of 1334, the settlement grew out of the medieval fortress area of Kostelgrad into a valley town, and in the nineteenth century it became home to the first chemical and pharmaceutical company in southeastern Europe, founded by Adolf Alfons Thierry. Pregrada received official town status in 1997 and keeps an Easter flintlock-shooting tradition said to descend from a sixteenth century guard practice.
