Aabenraa is a coastal town in the Southern Denmark region, situated at the head of the Aabenraa Fjord where it opens onto the Little Belt. It is the largest town and the seat of Aabenraa Municipality, and before the 2007 Danish municipal reform it served as the administrative center of the former Sønderjylland County. The town has a population of 16,468 and lies about 26 kilometers north of the German border and 32 kilometers from the German city of Flensburg.
