Lodève

Lodève is a commune in the Hérault department in the Occitania region of southern France, and serves as a subprefecture of the department. Its name derives from the Gaulish Luteva, combining a word for swamp or mud with a suffix, so the name can be read as the muddy place or the swamp city. That mud was historically a clay, called argillite, used since ancient times to make pottery.
