Gali

Gali is a town in the Gali District of Abkhazia, a breakaway region of Georgia that has been under Russian-backed separatist control since a 1992-1993 war; the territory is recognized as independent by only a handful of states and is regarded by most of the international community as occupied Georgian land. Located about 77 kilometers southeast of Sukhumi, Gali was granted town status in 1932 and had 7,605 inhabitants as of a 2011 count. It serves as the administrative center of Gali District.
