Mtskheta is a city in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region of Georgia, at the confluence of the Kura and Aragvi rivers about 20 kilometres north of Tbilisi. One of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, it was for nearly a millennium until the 5th century AD a large fortified city and a major economic and political centre of the Kingdom of Iberia, and it is today a small provincial capital.
