Celle is a town in Lower Saxony, Germany, and the capital of the district that bears its name, situated on the river Aller with a population of about 71,000. It was the official residence of the Luneburg branch of the dukes of Brunswick-Luneburg from 1378 to 1705, and its old town centre preserves a Renaissance and Baroque castle alongside more than 400 timber-framed houses on the German Timber-Frame Road.
