Dresden

Dresden is the capital of the German state of Saxony and its second most populous city after Leipzig. Known historically as a center of art and culture on the Elbe river, sometimes called the Florence of the Elbe, Dresden was largely destroyed by Allied bombing in February 1945 and has since been extensively rebuilt, with landmarks such as the Frauenkirche and the Zwinger palace restored as major symbols of the city's recovery.
