Duderstadt

Duderstadt is a city in the Gottingen district of Lower Saxony, Germany, serving as the center and capital of the northern Eichsfeld, with a population of 20,375 as of December 2024. First documented in 929 AD, a date the city uses as its founding year, it was historically the private property of the Roman Catholic archbishop of Mainz. Duderstadt is known for extensive half-timbered architecture along Market Street and for the Westerturm gate tower, built in 1343 with a distinctive twisted roof, and is the headquarters of the prosthetics company Otto Bock.
