Gorlitz is a town in Saxony, Germany, on the river Lusatian Neisse, and the largest town in Upper Lusatia. It is the easternmost town in Germany, lying opposite the Polish town of Zgorzelec, which formed the eastern part of Gorlitz until 1945; the two together form the Euro-City of Gorlitz/Zgorzelec, with a combined population of around 86,000, while Gorlitz itself has approximately 56,000 inhabitants, the sixth-largest town in Saxony and seat of the district of Gorlitz.
