Kehl

Kehl is a city in the German state of Baden-Wurttemberg, on the Rhine River at its confluence with the Kinzig and directly across from Strasbourg, France. First mentioned in 1038, it was turned into a fortress in 1683 by the French military architect Vauban and suffered heavy damage during the French Revolutionary Wars in the 1790s. Today Kehl functions as a gateway to Strasbourg, linked by four Rhine bridges and, since 2017, by an extension of the Strasbourg tramway, and its population stands at roughly 39,584.
