Opladen

Opladen is a district of the city of Leverkusen in Germany's North Rhine-Westphalia region, about fifteen kilometers northeast of Cologne, that served as the capital of the Rhein-Wupper-Kreis district until 1975 and was formerly part of the duchy of Berg before its incorporation into Prussia. Its population grew from about 6,338 in 1905 to roughly 42,000 by 1975, and it developed into an industrial center hosting dyeing works, dynamite and indigo manufacturers, publishing companies and a railway plant. Today it survives as an integrated district of Leverkusen, retaining historical architecture such as Villa Romer.
