Quedlinburg is a town in the district of Harz, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, situated just north of the Harz mountains. It was an influential and prosperous trading center during the early Middle Ages and became a center of the Ottonian dynasty in the 10th and 11th centuries. Its castle, church and old town, with around 2,100 surviving timber houses from that era, were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994 for their exceptional preservation and outstanding Romanesque architecture.
