Zwenkau is a town in the district of Leipzig in the German state of Saxony, about 15 kilometres south of the city of Leipzig, within the Central German Metropolitan Region. First documented in 974, it is one of Saxony's oldest recorded settlements. A former open-cast lignite mine near the town, closed in 1999, has since been flooded and rehabilitated into the recreational Lake Zwenkau. As of the end of 2024 the town had 9,305 residents across ten subdivisions.
