Swabia is a cultural, historical, and linguistic region of southwestern Germany named for the medieval Duchy of Swabia and the historic territory of the Alemanni and Suebi Germanic tribes. Today divided between the states of Bavaria and Baden-Wurttemberg and corresponding roughly to the early modern Swabian Circle of the Holy Roman Empire, it is home to the Swabian people, who speak Swabian German and maintain a strong regional identity centered on the area stretching from Stuttgart to Augsburg.
