Aege (Chalcidice)

Aege, also spelled Aige, was a town on the Pallene peninsula in Chalcidice, in ancient Macedonia, Greece. The historian Herodotus records it as one of the cities of Pallene where the Persian king Xerxes recruited troops and ships in 480 BCE during his invasion of Greece, and in 479 BCE the city sent troops to help defend Potidaea when it was besieged by the Persian general Artabazus. Aege later became a member of the Delian League, appearing in Athenian tribute lists from 454 to 415 BCE.
