Aigio

Aigio is a town and former municipality in the Achaea regional unit of West Greece, on the Peloponnese peninsula, and the second largest city in Achaea after Patras. It stands as a port on the Gulf of Corinth and takes its name from the ancient city of Aegium, whose settlement dates to Homeric times and which became part of the first Achaean League around 800 BC. It now serves as the seat of the Aigialeia municipality and had a population of about 25,795 in its municipal unit as of the 2021 census, across roughly 151 square kilometers.
