Alyzeia was an ancient Greek town on the western coast of Acarnania in northwestern Greece, lying about fifteen stadia inland from a harbor and home to a sanctuary of Heracles, with its remains in the Kandila valley in the present-day municipality of Xiromero. Thucydides is the earliest classical author to mention it, and in 375 BC an Athenian fleet under Timotheus fought a Spartan fleet under Nicolochus nearby, after which the Athenians raised a victory trophy at the city. The Heracles sanctuary once held sculptures by Lysippus depicting the Labours of Heracles, later removed to Rome by a Roman general as the site declined.
