Aphytis

Aphytis, also known as Aphyte or Aphytos, was an ancient Greek city on the Pallene headland, the westernmost of the three peninsulas of Chalcidice. Colonists from Euboea settled there around the middle of the eighth century BC. The city became known for its Temple of Dionysus, built in the second half of the eighth century BC, and for the cult of Ammon Zeus, worshipped there with the same devotion shown at the Libyan sanctuary of Ammonium at least from the time of the Spartan general Lysander. According to Pausanias, Ammon Zeus appeared to Lysander in a dream at Aphytis and persuaded him to lift a siege. The remaining ruins of the Temple of Ammon Zeus date to a fourth century BC structure.
