Arethusa (Mygdonia)

Arethusa, also spelled Arethousa, was a town of Bisaltia, in the easternmost part of the region of Mygdonia in ancient Macedonia, situated in the pass of Aulon north of Stageira and near Lake Bolbe and the Rhechius river. It was probably founded as a colony by the Chalcidians of Euboea and was celebrated in antiquity as the site of the tomb of the playwright Euripides; its location is identified near the modern town of Rentina, in the Thessaloniki region of Greece.
