Aspledon

Aspledon, also called Spledon, was a city of ancient Boeotia mentioned by Homer in the Catalogue of Ships in the Iliad, twenty stadia from Orchomenus with the river Melas running between the two cities. Strabo says it was later renamed Eudeielus for its sunny position, while Pausanias records that it had been abandoned in his own time for lack of water. Legend held that the town took its name from Aspledon, a son of Poseidon and the nymph Mideia.
