Biannus

Biannus, also recorded as Biannos, Biennus or Bienna, was an inland town and polis of ancient Crete in Greece. It appears as Bienna in the list of twenty-two Cretan cities compiled by the sixth-century Byzantine geographer Hierocles, and the Stadiasmus Maris Magni places it 170 stadia from Hierapytna and 270 stadia from Leben; the Blenna of the Peutinger Table is thought to be the same place. Ancient tradition associated the city with a legendary conflict between Otus and Ephialtes and the god Ares, from which its name was said to derive. The town minted its own coins during the Hellenistic period, some of which survive.
