Carystus was an ancient Greek polis on the south coast of Euboea, at the foot of Mount Oche. It appears in Homer's Catalogue of Ships in the Iliad as controlled by the Abantes and in the Linear B tablets as ka-ru-to; Thucydides credited its founding to the Dryopes, while legend traced its name to Carystus, son of Cheiron.
