Datus, also known as Datos or Daton, was an ancient Greek city in Macedonia, between the rivers Strymon and Nestos in what is now northern Greece. It was founded around 360 BC by colonists from Thasos with the support of the Athenian orator Callistratus, and it grew into a prosperous seaport near the gold deposits of Mount Pangaion. A proverb of antiquity praised the city for its good things, before Philip II of Macedon's expansion into the region reshaped its territory.
