Dium (Chalcidice)

Dium, also spelled Dion, was a city on the Acte peninsula, now known as Mount Athos, the easternmost of the three peninsulas forming ancient Chalcidice in what is now northern Greece. The historian Thucydides described its population as a mix of Chalcidian Greeks and other peoples including Pelasgians, Bisaltians and Edoni, and the town appears in Athenian tribute records as a member of the Delian League between 454 and 429 BC. Dium fought alongside the Spartan commander Brasidas against Athens in 424 and 423 BC, and its site is located on the Acte peninsula.
