Dyspontium was one of the eight towns of Pisatis in ancient Elis, situated on the plain between Elis and Olympia north of the river Alpheus, and has been identified with the modern village of Skafidia. Pausanias records that under King Pyrrhus of Pisatis, Dyspontium joined Pisa, Makistos, and Scillus in rebelling against the Eleans over control of the Olympic Games, and that after Pisa and its allies were defeated their cities were destroyed and many of Dyspontium people moved on to Epidamnus and Apollonia.
