Eleutherna, also called Apollonia, was an ancient city-state on the island of Crete, Greece, located on a narrow northern spur of Mount Ida, the island's highest mountain, about 25 kilometers southeast of Rethymno. Archaeological excavation of the site shows it flourished from the Greek Dark Ages through the Byzantine period.
