Elyrus

Elyrus, also spelled Elyros, was a town of ancient Crete located between Cydonia and Lissus, with a harbour called Syia on the island's south coast. The traveler Pausanias reported that the city still existed in the mountains of Crete in his own time, that he had seen a bronze goat dedicated at Delphi by the people of Elyrus, and that the city was the birthplace of Thaletas, credited as the inventor of the Cretic rhythm and of national paeans and songs.
