Eva (Cynuria)

Eva, also called Eua, was an ancient village of Cynuria located inland not far from Neris. The traveler Pausanias, visiting the region in the second century, described it as the largest of three villages he passed after leaving Thyrea, by way of Anthene and Neris, and he noted a sanctuary there dedicated to Polemocrates, son of Machaon, honored locally as a god or hero of healing. Above these villages rose Mount Parnon, where, near the sources of the river Tanus, the territories of the Lacedaemonians, Argives and Tegeatae met at boundary markers of carved stone. The same place is probably the one that Stephanus of Byzantium calls a city of Arcadia under the same name.
