Methone was an ancient Greek city-state on the Pagasetic Gulf in the district of Magnesia in Thessaly, Greece, tentatively placed by some scholars on a hill called Nevestiki near the modern village of Ano Lechonia, though the identification remains debated. Homer lists it in the Catalogue of Ships in the Iliad as a city of Philoctetes, and it is also named in the Periplus of Pseudo-Scylax alongside the Magnesian cities of Iolcus and Coracae; ancient geographers including Strabo, Pliny the Elder, and Stephanus of Byzantium also mention it. Fortification remains found at the proposed site may belong to Methone or to a neighboring settlement.
