Paus (Arcadia)

Paus, also called Paos, was a town in ancient Arcadia situated on the road from Caphyae to Psophis, a route traversed by Pausanias in the second century. According to his account, the road passed Nasi in the territory of Caphyae, crossed the Ladon fifty stadia further on, entered a forest of oaks called Soron, and passed through Argeathae, Lycuntes and Scotane before reaching the ruins of Paus at the edge of the forest, not far from Seirae, itself thirty stadia from Psophis and the boundary between Cleitor and Psophis.
