Pleuron was a city in ancient Aetolia, Greece. The name refers to two settlements: the older stood at the foot of Mount Curium between the rivers Acheloos and Evenos and was mentioned by Homer in the Catalogue of Ships in the Iliad, and its surrounding territory was called Pleuronia. The ruins of this older city lie about 1.5 kilometers southeast of the newer one, and its circuit wall shows the large roughly shaped stones with smaller stones filling the gaps that are characteristic of Cyclopean masonry.
