Polichne (Crete)

Polichne, also spelled Polichna, was an ancient town on the island of Crete, Greece, tentatively located near the modern village of Agios Georgios in Vryses. The historian Thucydides records that it fought a war against the neighboring city of Kydonia in 429 BC with Athenian support, while the earlier historian Herodotus preserves a mythic tradition that Polichne and the city of Praisos were the only Cretan cities that refused to join an expedition to Sicily to avenge the death of King Minos.
