Potniae

Potniae, also spelled Potniai, was a village of ancient Boeotia on the road from Thebes to Plataea, ten stadia from Thebes, and already in ruins by the time of Pausanias. It held a grove sacred to Demeter and Kore, and Greek mythology remembered it as the home of Glaucus, torn apart there by his own maddened mares; Strabo notes that some authorities identified Potniae with the Hypothebae named by Homer.
